Maeterlinck’s charming fairy play is the tale of two young children who, at the request of a fairy (disguised as the old lady who lives next door), must go on a quest for the magical Blue Bird accompanied by a motley crew of enchanted companions--including a Dog, a Cat, Bread, Milk, Fire, Water, Sugar, Light (they all talk!). They visit the Land of Memory, the Palace of Night, a Graveyard, a sinister Forest, and the Kingdom of the Future. The children’s adventures are witty, achingly beautiful, moving and spectacular, and the play is threaded through with music and with dance.
